Ahhh, weddings. Such crazy wonderful events! To say that weddings are emotional affairs would be a complete understatement… every part of the day brings laughter and tears! That being said, I believe there are a few truly magical moments you will want to be captured at your wedding. These are the big tear jerkers that you will look back on in 10, 20, or 50 years and be thankful that you have.
Without further ado, these are the MUST HAVE magical moments to have captured at your wedding, in chronological order!
Mom zipping up dress/father first look
For most of us, our parents have been our rock. They raised us, for goodness sake! A wedding is as much an emotional experience for them as it is for us. That is why I chose them as the focal point for the first moments on the list. I have yet to see a mom not tearing up with joy for her little girl while helping her zip her dress. There is nothing like the look on a father’s face when he sees his sweetheart dressed up and ready to be given away. These are truly special memories you won't want to miss.
First look/aisle photo
So this one is a bit more typical these days, but it should not be forgotten! Whether you and your beloved want to do a formal first look or you want to save the moment for when the bride first walks down the aisle, this capture is a must. You thought the parents got emotional…
First moment alone
Something I like to do for my couples is give them a moment to absorb everything right after the ceremony. Once they walk back up the aisle together, finally married, I take them to a secluded quiet spot. Before taking any major bridal photos, I like to give them a raw, personal moment together. They can hug, kiss, or just laugh together. I snap a few shots and then give them some privacy to just enjoy the moment.
First dance
This is it! It is official. The deed is done and all that’s left to do is dance the night away, starting with the main event. The first dance. This first dance is usually so sweet and intimate, despite being surrounded by the guests. I like to zoom in close and get some “head on the shoulder” or other candid shots. Then it's time to turn around and capture the audience's reaction. Without fail, some precious memories.
Crazy wild reception photos
Ok, time to push all the mushy stuff aside, stop the crying, and PARTY! This is where a lot of photographers go into a bit of “auto-pilot” but I think some of the best memories happen on the dance floor. Whether for a good laugh on an anniversary or to use as blackmail towards the friend who thought they could Dougie, these photos can range from classy to full-on wild. I like to do a bit of both!
