As a wedding photographer, there are few days I look forward to more than my couple’s weddings days. Engagement shoots, however, might just be the exception. I love photographing my couple’s engagement photos! Not only is a wonderful opportunity to meet the couple, get to know them in front of a lens, and practice before the wedding day, the shoot undoubtedly provides some of my favorite photos. This was most certainly the case with Chloe and Chris’ beautiful sunset engagement shoot on South Beach in Vero Beach.
South Beach, Vero Beach
With its pristine beaches, swaying palms, and tranquil ambiance, South Beach is a haven for lovers seeking intimacy in their photos. It’s privacy, calmness, and beauty offer a perfect backdrop for romance. Vero Beach offers plenty of beautiful seaside locations for my couples to choose from, but South Beach feels uniquely made for engagement photos.
Meeting Chloe and Chris
From our first introductions, it was evident that Chloe and Chris shared a strong bond and love for each other. You immediately get the sense that these are two people who really know each other and love each other deeply. Their laughter and humor showed a playfulness between them that was contagious. I also can’t forget to mention that these are two incredibly good-looking people. Beautiful inside and out, with a stunning beach sunset background. As a photographer, I knew this shoot was set up to be something incredible.
Telling a story
I strongly believe in the power of story. It is a vehicle by which we shape our memories, and photography is no different. When I approach a shoot like this, I like to document and tell two intertwined stories. One, the story of the lovely couple I am photographing, and two, the story of the actual event. What happened when we got to South Beach? Were Chloe and Chris nervous or outgoing? Was the weather calm or dramatic? These are all factors that make each engagement photoshoot distinct. I like to capture the little moments and whole overarching timeline. The details and the broader picture. Pun intended.
An Amazing Sunset Engagement Shoot
In this case, we ventured onto the beach to begin our photoshoot. Chloe and Chris quickly became comfortable in front of the camera and immediately showed why they are engaged to be married. The flirted, they joked, and they kissed with intention. This was a couple that was down for anything and made every situation feel natural, despite a camera following them.
As we walked the beach, the sun slowly sank and provided the most incredible glowing light. They danced, ran through waves, and cuddled in the sand in the perfect golden hour light. When the sun set lower, the cool pinks of a Vero Beach sunset started to light the sky and Chris led Chloe to the lifeguard tower to watch the crashing waves. These are the events as they happened, but the actual story and what it felt like to spend time with this amazing couple can be seen in the photos below.
